The barrel has been referred to by surfers as a magical place, a hole in the sea that has proven to be a Siren’s song for all of us. Recently, Tony “Harro” Harington payed homage to the tube and produced an independent film dedicated to the barrel entitled “iON The Barrel.” We warmly welcome you to join us for the film’s Hawaiian premiere on November 27 at Surfer, The Bar.
A live acoustic set by Matt Reardon will kickstart the night at 7:30 and the Talk Story session will begin at 8. The film’s premiere will immediately follow the Talk Story session and is sure to wow the audience. “Since my very first tube ride as a grommet I’ve been hooked on the barrel, just like every surfer I know,” says Harrington, the project creator, director, and filmer. “At its core, what drives us all is the lure of wanting more time in the barrel.” The film tracks a global journey for hollow waves from Hawaii to Indonesia, across to Mexico, Tahiti and Australia and celebrates the surfers and the waves along the way. Tickets to the film’s premiere are $10 and are available at the Watershed store at Turtle Bay. All of the $10 door donation will benefit the Sunset Beach Elementary Reading Program.
