Wanderlust Teacher Training
As the exclusive host of Wanderlust Oahu, part of a premier lineup of four-day yoga and music summits, Nalu Kinetic Spa at Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu’s Fabled North Shore will be one of several select locations worldwide offering an innovative new yoga teacher training program created by Wanderlust’s renowned yoga scholars.
Wanderlust Teacher Training will run from March 31-April 26, 2014, at the resort’s newly opened Nalu Kinetic Spa, a first-of-its-kind health and wellness center. Training will be led by top-tier teacher Kate Baldwin, founder of True Union, a North Shore-based organization that spreads yoga awareness through classes and teacher trainings. Baldwin has more than a decade of practice and study in yoga, including certifications in hot yoga, hot vinyasa, advanced vinyasa, hatha yoga, yoga philosophy, Bhakti yoga, and Thai yoga therapy. Sessions are appropriate for both aspiring yoga teachers and experienced practitioners, and will also include guest scholars from Oahu who will share insight into their areas of expertise, such as yoga philosophy, prenatal yoga and energy work.
This innovative program offers a 200-hour Yoga Alliance® teacher certification curriculum made up of four 50-hour weekly training modules. Students can complete the training in the month-long intensive session or take one module at a time at three Wanderlust Yoga studio locations in Austin, Tex., Squaw Valley, Calif., or Montreal, Canada; Wanderlust partner studios; and at future Wanderlust festivals, held throughout North and South America in 2014.
True to Wanderlust’s music festival roots, the training incorporates live music and offers prospective teachers numerous methods for teaching with music. Modules start at $800 per person, available through wanderlustyoga.com.
Turtle Bay, which hosted the first Wanderlust Oahu festival earlier this year, will again welcome leading yoga teachers, top musical acts and DJs, renowned speakers and more for Wanderlust Oahu 2014, from Feb. 27-Mar. 2, 2014. The festival will feature nightly concerts and activities that focus on authentic North Shore experiences – from expert-led yoga and meditation sessions to stand-up paddleboard yoga, surfing, hikes and nature walks, talk story sessions with yoga, surf and music legends, hula dancing, ukulele lessons, farm-to-table dinners, wine tastings, films and more. Four-day, three-day, one-day and music event tickets are available by visiting oahu.wanderlustfestival.com. Special pricing is available through Jan. 7, 2014.

Instructor Lilly Barels
Lilly Barels is a funky, fun-lovin’ yogini. She started her journey on the yoga mat as a dancer, trying to heal injured ankles and knees, but found the therapeutic effects of the practice transcending the physical benefits. She graduated from UCLA with a double major in neuroscience and world dance, but decided to pursue studies in alternative medicine rather than the Western medical school track she had planned on since kindergarten. She trained to become a yoga instructor with the renowned Steve Ross in LA before moving to Hawaii, where she completed a three-year program called Sacred Path Healing. Here, she studied the chakras and energy fields, learned how to use medicinal essential oils for aromatherapy, and turned her attention inward to focus on connection with a higher consciousness. She is passionate about balancing the scientific side of yoga instruction with vital subtle energetics. She blends anatomy and physiology, a conscious asana practice, and meditation to create a holistic approach for uncovering the divine spark within–and usually plays loud music just to keep things interesting. Besides teaching weekly classes, she has led several Teacher Training programs on Oahu and is a Lululemon Ambassador. She currently blogs about yoga for Huffington Post and is finishing an MFA in Creative Writing. www.lillyyoga.com
